Educational Attainment:

BS Agriculture UPLB, 1960

MS in Agronomy UPLB, 1964

PhD Horticulture specialization in Plant Breeding , Rutger, New Jersey, 1966

One of his research finding contributed to basic studies in mitochondrial biochemistry and ultrastructure.  It ended the incorporation of “T’ cytoplasm in the US and in local corn inbred lines, which translate to thousand of savings in research funds in relation to such studies.

As the director of Asian Vegetable Research and Development Center their team developed a heat-tolerant tomato varieties and improved the germplasm of sweet potato.

Recognition:

Ten Outstanding Young Men Award (TOYM, 1971, by the Philippine Jaycees)

Rizal Pro Patria Award (1981, Philippine Government)

 Pantas Award (1983, Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development)

 Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award (as project coordinator of the UPLB-IPB vegetable breeding team, 1991, Civil Service Commission)

 Ten Outstanding Presidents (1992-1993, Rotary International)

 Honorary Membership (2000 Agricultural Society of Thailand under the patronage of H.M., the King)

 Most Distinguish Alumnus of UPLB (2000, UPLB Alumni Association)

 Upsilon Noble and Outstanding Award (2000), which is the highest award bestowed on by the Upsilon Sigma Phi Fraternity on its members.
