Scientific names: Nerium indicum Mill., Nerium oleander, Nerium odorum Soland.

 

Common name: Baladre, dog bane, Ceylon tree, oleander, rose bay, south sea rose.

 

Use: Crush leaves, mix with oil and apply on lesions. Do not apply on raw surface. Milky juice of the plant is irritating. Not to be taken internally. This  preparation is for Herpes zoster skin disease.

 

The active components are: Glycoside, oleandrin, tannin, volatile oil

Scientific name: Arcangelisia flava, Arcangelisia inclyta Becc., Arcangelisia leminiscata Becc., Anamirta flavescens Miq., Anamirta lemiscata, Cocculus flavescens DC., Menispermum flavescens Lam., Menispermum flavum L., Tuba flava Rumph.

 

Other names: Albotra, abustra, buti, lagtal, lagtan, suma , taua

The decoction of the plant is indicated for itching and tropical ulcers.

The active ingredient in the plants are the following alkaloids: berberine, jatrorrhizine, columbamine, shobakunine

Abukado

Scientific name: Persea Americana Mill. , Persea gratissima Gaertn.

 

Other name: Aguacate , Alligator pear, Avocado

 

It is said to be effective against rheumatism and neuralgia.

You need to pulverize seeds or bark, mix with oil and apply on affected area as counterirritant.

 

Its decoction (leaves) can be a tea.

 

The bark of the abukado have volatile fatty acid and methyl chavicol.

Medicinal use of sampalok

SAMPALOK

 

For Colds

 

Boil the choppped leaves in 2 glasses of water for 15 minutes, or until the water is

reduced to half its volume. Allow to cool and strain.

Divide the decoction into 3 parts and drink 1 part every after each meal.

 

The following measurements should guide you:

 

Condition of leaves

Dried leaves, Fresh leaves of Patient (crushed) (chopped)

 

Age

 

Adult 8 tbsp. 10 tbsp.

7-12 years 4 tbsp. 5 tbsp.

2-6 years 2 tbsp. 2½ tbsp.

 

For wounds and itchiness:

 

Boil one to two handfuls of the chopped plant material in a pot of water for 15 minutes.

Let cool and strain. Use the decoction twice a day for washing the wound or itchy

portion.
