Ladrilyo: Matibay na halimbawa mula DOST TECHNICOM

Mula sa mga putik na naipon sa tabing-ilog o sa mga kanal ng mga patubigan ay makagagawa tayo ng produktong kapaki-pakinabang – ang ladrilyo o “bricks”!

Sa mahigit na tatlong dekada, si G. Emmanuel Alkuino ng SIDLAKPINOY (ang “sidlak” mula sa salitang Bisaya na ang ibig sabihin ay sumikat – “Sikat, Pinoy”) ay patuloy na tumutuklas ng mga makabagong paraan upang maitaas ang antas ng kalidad sa paggawa ng mga ladrilyo.

Ang produktong ladrilyo ni G. Alkuino na tinawag niyang “SIDLAKAN Reinforced Fire Bricks” ay pinaghalong putik at abo ng sinunog na mga ipa. Ang mga nakaimbak na putik ay madaling matagpuan─ sa mga tabihan o gilid ng mga anyong tubig tulad ng ilog o mga kanal ng patubigan. Ang mga ipa naman ay ginagamit bilang panggatong sa pagluluto ng ladrilyo. Kalaunan, natuklasan na ang abong naiwan ng ipa ay mabisang panghalo sa putik. Nagsisilbi itong “silica” na nagpapakapit sa ladrilyong putik upang ito ay maging matibay.

CARABAO/COW DUNG FLOORING

 

Carabao or cow dung flooring is an age-old technology applied in the rural areas. “Bastiya,” as it is locally known, took a back seat to cement during the peak of the latter’s popularity but is currently making a quiet comeback due to the prohibitive cost of cement. The procedure for making the dung mixture herein presented is the one followed in and around the environs of Antipolo (Rizal) where the ground leaves of “puso-puso” (litseaa glutinosa) are used as a binder. It is known that in Central Luzon, “dayami” or dried rice stalks are added as filler material. The distinct advantage of carabao or cow dung flooring over simple packed earth is that the former does not give the rise to dust.
