Katol from Lanzones Peel / Mosquito repellant
Katol from Lanzones Peel / Mosquito repellant
There have been some study that like other plants lanzones peel has a certain compound that can repel mosquito. Way back in my elementary days I remember my sister making a project about this. They made a katol made from dried lanzones peeling they even copied the coil like structure of the commercially available katol.
Here’s how they do it.
Materials: Starch, aluminum foil, lazones peeling, commercial katol
- Lanzones was sun dried for a few days.
- If the lanzones is fully dried you can now pulverized it using a mortar and pastel.
- Mix equal amount of starch and pulverized lanzones peeling add water to make a paste like consistency. Mix thoroughly.
- Now get the commercial katol and use the foil to make a mold.
- Now pour the mixed starch and lanzones into the mold and let it dry.
- You now have a katol.
If your katol does not burn properly you could increase the ratio of pulverized lanzones

They use lansones because it has the property to be insect repellant. I am not sure kung meron din ang oregano. ANother alternative would be ipil ipil. Yun pinaka lagayan nya ng buto if dry mo siya pwedeng pamalit sa dried lansones.

Oh!!! what a very nice invention!!!… I hope that it will be known by the people as soon as posible so that they may not be expencing more money to buy a comercial katol,(that will help us, people, para naman makabawas sa gatos…) and then that invention is a very earth environmental friendly one. You need albino mice then shave their back. You will put your sample on the shaved area and then you will put them in a chamber full of mosquito. Another group of mice will be without the sample. Then after few hours you will count the mosquito bite and compare them.
You need an approval of a vet for this… All laboratory animal procedure or experiment should be first be checked by a vet.

ahm, ginawa kc nmin, pinaghalo halo na lhat- ipil-ipil leaves, santol stalk, etc.. lahat iyon dinurog tlga n parng pulbos. gawgaw din ginamit nmin n binder at niramihan para lumapot, yung katol ang ginawang pangmoldehan, kso nun ini-sun drying halos 3days, basa2 pa, , air dry nmn, nagkaamag, nun idiryer, nagbitak..anong gagawin para magbuo at tumigas n parang katol? at pag sinisindihan, namamatay ang apoy..
sana matulungan niyo kmi, lapi na sembreak, kelangan nmin ito ihabol.. Salamat po uli!!

bawasan po nila yung gawgaw at damihan yun raw materials nyo.
remember na dapat na sundried muna ng mabuti yun mga materials like ipil ipil leaves, santol stalk etc before ipulvireze at ihalo sa gawgaw .

hi nemo…. ginawa ko yung sinabi mo sa taas kaso iba yung ginamit kong plant na may mosquito repellent effect (bawal sabihin kc confidential) ang main problem ko ayaw niya masunog ng tuloy-tuloy. so ang ginawa ko niluto ko yung powder para mas maging dry, tapos gaw-gaw yung ginamit ko, ngayon ni ayaw na magsindi (dati kasi cornstarch ginamit ko). kailangan ko ng help mo, bukas na yung submission ng ip namin. ano sa tingin mo ang problema? ano bang pwedeng gamiting binder other than gaw-gaw and cornstarch? feeling ko kasi yun ung dahilan kung bakit ayaw magburn maigi. kasi pag sinunog ko naman ung material ko, nagbuburn siya ng tuloy-tuloy… pls. patulong… i really need your help.

decrease the ratio of gawgaw and increase the ratio of your material. Then air dry your product, baka mataas pa ang moisture kaya ayaw mag burn.
